International Mother Language Day occurs every year on February 21, founded by UNESCO in November 1999 and also it is recognized by FN. It is important for every human being to have the opportunity to use and get good at their native tongue - a right that is obvious to many, but far from for all.
According to the Azerbaijan sources, more than 30 million Azerbaijanis live in Iran, despite this, they are not allowed to study in their native language, those who defend this right can be imprisoned, tortured and lose their jobs. Iranian Ministry of Culture ordered in several occasions that it is banned to use Azerbaijani language on tombstones and shop signs. Because of this grim reality, Azerbaijani National Association organize special ceremonies or demonstrations related to specific international mother language day each year.
This year AFI has invited two well-known linguist Ali Aliyev and Aghalar Mammadov from Azerbaijan to come to Sweden to be the main speaker at these seminars. In the seminars, these topics are covered:
A brief overview of the historical development of azerbaijani language (different development periods in history). Mapping of azerbaijani language in the Republic of Azerbaijan and During the national government between 1945-1946 in South Azerbaijan.Go through the problems that exist with azerbaijani language in the South Azerbaijan.
